As many of you are aware, Bill 148, the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017 is moving through the Ontario legislature and looks set to be passed in the near future. It will bring many significant changes to labour and employment law in the province. You can find additional details in our blog post on the bill here.

The Ontario government will be conducting public hearings to hear Ontarians’ views about the proposed legislation and has invited employers to take part in those hearings in London on July 17, Kitchener-Waterloo on July 18, Niagara on July 19, Hamilton on July 20, and Toronto on July 21, 2017.

Employers (or other members of the public) that wish to make an oral submission at the hearings have until 10:00 am on July 10, 2017 to write to the government to request an appearance. Alternatively, employers may provide written submissions to the government, which are due by 5:30 pm on July 21, 2017.

For further information about how to request an appearance at a public hearing or to make written submissions, and to find a digital version of the proposed legislation please visit this website.
